Sinai Temple Green Team

The Sinai Temple Green Team works to advance environmental sustainability for our synagogue community, the Springfield, MA area, and all people.  Our environmental engagement promotes the Jewish ideals of tikkun olam (repairing the world), tzedek (justice), and bal tashchit (prohibition against wanton destruction).  We are also furthering the Union for Reform Judaism’s environmental resolutions, including the December 2017 statement encouraging congregations to advocate for and work to implement climate change solutions.

In a November 2019 interview with Mass Live, Rabbi Master explained the Jewish understanding of what that stewardship means, quoting the ancient Rabbis, “When God created the first human beings, God led them around the Garden of Eden and said “Look at my works. See how beautiful they are, how excellent. All has been created for your sake … So reflect on this and take care not to foul or destroy my world. For if you do, there will be none to repair it after you.”
